Abstract On the basis of the principle of virtual displacements, a mathematical model has been developed for describing the behavior of double-glazing unit when subjected to a quasi-static explosive load. The obtained equations allow to calculate the stresses on the sides of the rectangular double-glazing unit, considered as a membrane with a large deflection. It has been proved that the numerical value of the shear stress arising in the hub stress molding fillet is equal to shear modulus for rigid PVC using profile without a longitudinal molding cut whisker. The assessment of effectiveness, including economic one, has been done for using double-glazing unit as pressure relief windows.
